Bridging The Past With The Present
Michelle Jung’s work celebrates nature merging with digital colors, particularly relevant to manipulating filters. Combining chiaroscuro and glazing techniques suggestive of Renaissance painters and a monochromatic style inspired by the color field painters of the 1940s and 1950s, Jung adds an innovative method of creating a luminal surface that becomes translucent and three-dimensional under light like that of a computer screen.
Each piece is a diptych, consisting of two paintings side by side. Both paintings are mirror images of one another. Where the diptych meets, a new image activates and stimulates the viewers, making them aware of how they interact physiologically with the artwork.
